Halcyon raises awareness of autism and related conditions through training and education. It aims to reduce conflict within families and communities and offers advice and support to all those affected. Halcyon believes all people with autism have a right to reach their full potential and provides a framework and opportunities for them to do so.
The team behind Halcyon is made up of parents, carers, those on the autistic spectrum and professionals. Halcyon places public benefit at the heart of its activities as it seeks to fulfil its charitable aims. Halcyon’s main activities revolve around the following key areas:-
Appropriate work experience and training for people on the autistic spectrum resulting in increased confidence and knowledge to improve employment opportunities.
One-to-one or small group training sessions, aimed at families and carers of those with a diagnosis of autism and/or related conditions.
Training for families and carers which equips them with the necessary understanding and skills to prevent challenging behaviours from occurring or, if they do occur, from escalating, and has recently commenced work with social services which refer families in crisis to the charity for much need training and support.
Training sessions for employees of both public and private sector organisations, to provide an insight into and raise awareness around, the nature of autistic spectrum conditions and the causes of challenging behaviour.
